SMALL SCHOOLS

In the world of education reform where there is much discussion about the best way to improve student learning, there is a remarkable unanimity around the idea of small schools. Small school environments support personalized relationships with students and their families, encourage rigor and real-world experience for students, provide teachers with opportunities to collaborate with parents and earn respect as professionals, support flexible planning and problem solving, and have demonstrated positive results with student learning.

TALC New Vision is committed to starting fifty new small high schools in Milwaukee by 2008–09 that will offer parents, students, and teachers choices in curriculum, teaching methodology, and governance structure. We are also committed to participating with other reform leaders in implementing best practices from small schools across the country.
